The newspaper published a special edition with the reinactment of the Events of June 19, 1861. Herman Schnackenberg, fighting as a member of the Home Guard, had his left leg shot off at the knee in the Battle of Cole Camp, on June 18, 1861. He was fitted with an artificial limb. Mr. Schnackenberg and his two brothers were born in Germany. Each participated in the battle and ???? Schnackenberg, great grandfather of Benton County Judge, Erwin Schnackenberg, had a ball lodged in his knee in the same battle, but was able to save the knee.
